“ArcDH Association” issued a strong warning about the environmental crisis caused by hazardous waste in Azerbaijan(iran). During the interactive dialogue on September 17, 2024, Arc Association expressed concerns about the air of the cities like Tabriz is extremely polluted due to Mazut burring and mismanagement of energy.
– Because of very low quality of cars manufactured in Iran and due to governmental monopole of car industry, air of all cities in Azerbaijan region is very polluted.
– Many water resources and rivers are contaminated by chemical wastes of nearby factories; this list includes but not limited to:
* Qarasu river in Ardabil is completely contaminated by various dangerous chemical wastes. The main reason of contamination is the refinery of Ardabil Industrial Park.
* Araz river is contaminated to Uranium and this increased cancer in the Azerbaijanis living nearby the river. According to the reports, the origine of this contamination comes from the Metsamor nuclear plant in Armenia.
* Its soil is contaminated by ruthless mining such as in Sungun or Tikantepe and Maraghe by industries like Kave Soda, and many other examples that shows the catastrophic situation of hazardous waste in Azerbaijan.
