ArcDH Warns the UN Human Rights Council About the Dire Situation of Azerbaijanis in Iran

The Association for Human Rights of Azerbaijanis of Iran (ArcDH) raised concerns about the critical economic and social situation of Azerbaijanis in Iran during the 58th session of the UN Human Rights Council.

ArcDH reported that, according to statistics, at least 30% of the Azerbaijani population in Iran lives in absolute poverty, with limited access to basic necessities such as food, clothing, and housing. The inflation rate in these regions has exceeded 35%, significantly reducing people’s purchasing power.

According to ArcDH’s report, the minimum monthly wage for workers in Iran is only $77, making life extremely difficult for millions of people. Meanwhile, the government’s financial aid for low-income individuals is around $4 per month, which is far from sufficient to cover basic needs.

Additionally, the unemployment rate among university graduates in East Azerbaijan province has reached 47%, while the employment rate for Azerbaijani women stands at only 15%.

ArcDH emphasized that the Iranian government has failed to uphold the rights guaranteed under Articles 3, 6, 7, 11, 12, and 13 of the International Covenant on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights.
